To celebrate 40 years of married bliss we joined Norwegian Jewel's mini-cruise to Amsterdam with 11 family members with an age range of 2 to 86 years, after reading recent reviews we boarded with trepidation all worries soon disappeared. Only Grandma and us had cruised previously and then mainly with P&O so NCL cruising proved different to say the least,but no less enjoyable for all ages. Checking in etc was completed without delay or fuss and we were welcomed on board with champagne/orange juice to start a super weekend with our daughters,husbands and grandchildren making the most of the pools etc while we indulged in complimentary champagne and strawberries and enjoyed this beautiful ship. We ate mainly in the Tzar's Palace having prebooked a table for eleven, the staff were very good, especially with the cildren. Service could have been a little quicker but this is freestyle service and we enjoyed the laid back approach for a weekend with the children but prefer the more formal "P&O" style service for cruises on our own. Menus were adequate and food very good although the choice for the smaller children was limited and repeated at lunch and dinner on each day. Our daughters and families had breakfast in the Garden Cafe and found a huge range of food and drinks to suit everybody but the whole restaurant soon became packed. Entertainment was first class (P&O would do well to take a few tips from NCL in this department) with the Cirque Bijou being one of the best shows I have ever seen on a cruise liner. All in all this was an excellent short celebration cruise which would certainly further family holidays like this. Well done NCL.
