We have just returned from a 2 week cruise to the North Cape and the Norwegian Fjords aboard the Norwegian Jade.
The quality of the food was very good, there was plenty of choice for everyone - there were suppliments to pay at some restaurants, but this was not pushed at all and indeed the high standard of the food and service in the Grand Pacific Restaurant and the Alizar Restaurant more than satisfied our yearning for a cruise which allowed us to feel pampered - napkins placed on laps, ice cold water poured at every meal, attentive staff checking for the lowering levels of coffee/tea/water/wine - these all added to our satisfaction.
The only downside, if there is to be one, was the short wait for a table if you went at a busy time, however, this was easily avoided by making a call to the restaurant before time to book a table!
The entertainment was good and catered for everyone - Lenny Windsor was the guest comedian, very funny and spent a lotof time mixing and chatting to fellow travellers. The stage productions of Smokie Joes Cafe and Shout were excellent and the Second City team were very good value when there was nothing on in the theatre which we fel drawn to see.
Speakers on the ship included Milton Keiles, who gave a talk on Selling on EBay and Weird and Wacky Websites - he was very funny and informative, gave Lenny Windsor a run for his money! Lexus smiles all round!
The scenery we saw and the places we visited were awsome - the fjordes and the glaciers were spectacular, the towns and cities we visited all had something special to offer and te visit to the North Cape was an amazing experience.
The tours in general were of good value, except the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Bergen - this was advertised as a full day trip including a ride on the famous Flamm Railway - the cost with NCL - $395 per person - £199 - the cost of doing this independantly through the Norwegian Tourist Board for the full day was $170 - £85.00 - some mark up!!!
The trip we enjoyed most was the Helysilt to Geiranger Overland our - excellent scenery and an excellent Guide - including lunch for £80 - much more realistic!
The newly renamed Jade was on its first visit to Norway and the commentary by our Captain who was Norweigian and obviously very proud of his homeland only enhanced our visit.
A great holiday, great ship and great location.
