Norwegian HELL to Jade

First of all a bit about me - Seasonal Cruiser - all though until now have always been with Celebrity & RCCL and we love them! & this cruise has made us love them even more! :(

Embarkation was fine, we had a dream of a car journey down so we had to wait a bit , nothing to complain about , understandable. We were a party 5 - 2 Adults & 3 kids - 15, 10, 9. We had two mini-suites (AF) and oh my how bad were they! Filthy to the fact that the draws were full of dust and had the previous passengers rubbish in them. The dust and filth behind the curtains, the desk area was dusty, smered mirrors and marked wardrobes. I was to scared to use the bath which is one of the pluses of a mini-suite.

Now i don't mean to sound 'snobbish' or 'posh' but another thing which affected my holiday was thew type of people aboard with me. People in football t-shirts, joggers and about 90% of the ship really enjoyed the 6 for 5 beer offers on the ship. In the evenings pints were being carried around everywhere! The pool was not a joy to sit aound with 800 screaming kids - litteraly on the ship and apparently the sailing before had 1,200 (YICKS!) and the stench of bozze.

Finally on day 3 we got the upsell! We had been working on this before we went away but it was unsuccessful and the reason it didn't happen on day 1 was they needed to contact Miami who where closed over the weekend and the cruise started on a Saturday! We finally got a Courtyard Villa for the Kids and a Deleux Owners for us. What Heaven! The cabins were emaculate, the courtyard pool was a different world and you then realised how bad it was downstairs. Apparently from speaking to past passengers of NCL they said the staff treated all the other passengers not like they did on the other ships of NCL - because they think know the Brits are mean tippers and they are, you should of seen the line on the last couple of days to take the tips/service charge off!

The deck 14 was like a private Oasis or a luxury prision as you really didn't want to leave the private deck! I wouldn't of paid the price we did to upgrade to runaway because i am normally happy to mingle with other continental Europeans and pleasent Americans on other cruises. By the way the buffet was a NO GO, the food was cold by the time you got to sit down so we took it up to deck 14 and it smelt of booze too. The price you pay to get decent, high quality food adds up to your bill - there are only two free main resturants compared to the 9 paying ones. the decor was tacky and like blackpool.

If you are a RCCL and/or Celebrity lover stick to them! Norwegian Jade is a no go.

It only became 'jaded' when we moved. The view in our deleuxs owners overlooked the pool - a different world. If you are going to pay the price for the suite life it is great but to be honest with you i rather spend that on a ship which i still would like to walk around.

I also feel NCL work there crew harder for less and make thier wages rely on our tips.
One and only time on NCL!
Quality of Food3
The more you pay the better it got from cold, standing-arond food
Entertainment2
Shout! Smokey Joe's were good. Other brought in acts not as good as other cruises
Shore Excursionsn/a
Staff2
Deck 14 brillant - The rest :( (RAting based on normal around ship)
Children's Facilities1
Had big problems with them and they sent my little girl out by herself without permission and told her to go to a different area on the ship when she had been already signed in. She rang me on a public phone crying - disgracefull!
Onboard Activities1
RUBBISH - same everyday and like Butlins
Cabins2

Iagree with D RAD Cheshire on 26th of August said about Norwegian Jade.On my August cruise a mass of children (OVERBOOKED) out of control, staff who did nothing about this, underage drinking, blocking walkways, running along corridors all night. Freestyle obviously for young people and families, for older people terrible experience. Complaint lodged with ncl. This would put you off cruising for life, never again on this cruise line,i could have paid alot less money and gone to Butlins.

I sailed on this cruise, and found the crossing through the bay, rougher than last year (on board Navigator of the Seas, but the weater wasnt the best. Some of the staff were very miserable, and the maitre d' in Alizar was less than accomodative, as someone in our party asked for a smoked salmon salad, and said that they need 24 hours notice to put some smoked salmon (already plated up) and a salad (also plated up) together! I found the general cleanliness of the ship to be OK. The bathroom shelves werent cleaned once, and when it came to packing up, some of my toiletries were covered with dust! As for "Freestyle" it is a load of b*****ks!! If you dont have the privilage of being in a suite (which luckily we did) you can only book on the same day, and it was very stressful, even booking 3 days in advance! And in the sweltering hot weather of the Med, you arent alowed to wear shorts or 3/4 trousers! Think i may well stick to Royal Caribbean!! To show you the class of people on the ship, 2 families got thrown off due to a fight, in the Madusa Lounge, which involved chairs and tables being thrown! Not very pleasant!! Being with people who have previously on a NCL ship, they found the entertainment to be "Englishised"!! I agree with this review, and definatly wouldnt recommend NCL, to anyone!

Very good to know ANOTHER person agrees. I think i meet you during the voyage - you were a nice, kind, well mannered man. Hope you enjoy the rest of your NCL - free cruising!

We have just returned from the Jade and to be quite honest, the main problem we had was with some of the passengers. At least six times during the cruise my wife and i found that we were being blatantly stared at in the restaurants. We don't wear football shirts :-)and are quiet, well mannered people. It is the constant 'better than you' attitude that we encountered. Why can't people leave all that stuff at home?

I find your comments quite amazing. You are obviously a cheapskate who is looking for 5* luxury at 3* prices. I have read your postings on other cruise boards and having booked at a very favourable price through an USA website you spent the last weeks before sailing trying to work out how you get a cheap upsell to a VIP cabin. Wake up and smell the coffee if you really want the luxury put your hand in your pocket and pay for it.Out of interest we paid less for our Penthouse suite than an outside cabin on P&O now thats what I call value for money !!

What a shame that you had to endure the site of dust and people in football shirts, and people carrying pints around tut tut. This was the best cruise that Ive ever been on, been on the toffy oceana before and others etc. In future for your holidays the best advise that I can offer is for you to find somewhere where other human beings arnt allowed then you can enjoy your own comany. For me this was a ship in a league of its own. good food, excellent service, and being around other holiday makers who work hard all year round and make the most of their holidays and appreciate and make the best of it.

did you actually pay for your upgrade i bet you didnt!A senior member of staff on board the jade told me that the biggest moaners spend the least amount of money.Maybe next year youll go on a posher ship where people dont drink pints and perhaps they could give you some spelling lessions!

Yes, I also find your attitude and comments distasteful. You say that you don't mean to sound 'posh' and 'snobbish' but I'm afraid that you do. If you can afford to upgrade to Deck 14, why didn't you just pay for a 'posher' cruise in the first place? As you are obviously familiar with the joys of Butlins and Blackpool, then you should have known what to expect from us Brits!

I find your comments very distasteful. I agree that the ship was very busy and full of kids (some not very well behaved), however, what do you expect in August when the ship was full! As for the comments on 'booze', I did not see anyone behaving in a way that you are suggesting. People are perfectly within their rights to be able to have a pint of beer if they wish. It does not mean they are 'boozers'or the type of people you are suggesting. Our cabin on deck 10 was immaculate and I cannot praise the staff enough for their hard work and willingness to help and make our holiday enjoyable. Do you expect people to be 'dressed up' immaculately in high temperatures? Yes, people were casual in the day, but generally very well dressed at night. We were surprised how 'dressy' it was in the evenings in the Grand Pacific and bars i.e. champagne, tankards (as it was advertised as a freestyle cruise). Yes, the boat was very busy and the pool area was crowded. However, we had an enjoyable experience below deck 14 and found many quiet areas. We have also cruised with RCCL and many other cruise companies, so also have other companies to compare it with. You do not mention the beautiful countries we visited, the weather and of course NCL are much cheaper than the other cruise companies you mention. We spoke to a lot of moaners who wanted something for nothing, and we also met some very nice people wanting to have an enjoyable holiday.
