We have never really fancied 'Freestyle cruising' as part of cruising for us was getting 'dressed up' for dinner, but as we were in California decided to try Norwegian Star sailing out of Long Island for the Mexican cruise. The cabins were very comparable with both P & O and Celebrity cruises, in fact the shower room was larger than both the other ships. Entertainment was excellent, one of the shore trips we picked we didn't think was good value for money, but the others we tried were very good and well organised. The food was well presented, but there were sometimes queues to eat in the main dining rooms, a name taking system would be good to avoid the queues outside the dining rooms. Buffet restaurant at peak times could be busy, but there was often a most enjoyable poolside bbq which we enjoyed. We were pleased to see that hygiene was uppermost all over the ship, thus preventing the spread of infections.
The various talks before we went ashore also proved to be of value to us, so all-in-all a most enjoyable time, so much so we have booked to go with NCL in the future. All the staff were very amenable and went out of their way to help in whatever way they could we would certainly recommend NCL.
